Card dated 1858
(guess they liked to paint Jesus
with long hair)
"Be watchful and vigilant. It is by design that Jesus concealed the last day from us.
He wants us to be on the lookout for Him every day of our lives.
St. Augustine
IMAGO SACRA MILLE GRATIARUM VALET. ("A holy picture is worth a thousand graces")................... This blog is a means to show some of my holy card collection along with some interesting thoughts and inspirations. "....artists have the privilege in the Church and throughout history, to open up so that people can see the mystery of God. The artist speaks, not just literally, but symbolically. Visual images, if well done, can move us. That's a ministry." Quote from Brother Michael Moran, C.P

What a wonderful card! I love it when you post an image I've never seen before. I also like the quote you chose. Yes, we never know when the last day will be and it's probably a good thing or we would be all frantic about everything left undone. Hopefully, we'll be ready in the ways that are important.
Thanks again. God bless.
Kay
Sweet Micki,
I love this picture...Jesus putting flowers on our heads...I love it.
I agree with Kay the quote is perfect with this.
Love you,
Prayerflowers
I can't quite read the label at the bottom (except for the word "Paris"), but might this not be an early example of St. Sulpice style?
Micki,
Sorry I did not get back to you sooner! The graphic you asked about at my blog was a google image find.
I simply typed in the words, "wolf in sheep's clothing."
I went back and could not find a definitive source.
I agree, It is a very interesting graphic!
Blessings!
Wow! This one is so pretty! Love that quote by St. Augustine. :-)Thanks so much for posting it... :-D
Kay - Thank you...hard to find one you haven't seen :-)
Prayerflowers - Yes, a different thought from the beautiful yet standard picture of crowning Mary with a flower wreath. Make mine roses please :-)
Irene - Thanks for stopping by. I'm not sure if this would be early St. Sulpice or not...1858 is a longgggggg time ago.
Soutenus - Thanks for your answer...I do love that sheep/wolf picture.
CT - So glad you like this picture.
St. Augustine has said some powerful words to choose from.
