Feast of St. Augustine..........August 28

There quickly surfaces the intensity with which he lived his life,
whether his path led away from or toward God.
The tears of his mother,
the instructions of Ambrose and,
most of all,
God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures redirected Augustine's
love of life to a life of love.

"When we pray, we speak to God. When we read, God speaks to us."

Feast of St. Monica..........August 27

St. Monica
Patroness of Mothers and Widows

St. Monica is remembered as an example of patience and perserverance in prayer. Through her constant prayer, her pagan husband became a Christian before his death, and her son, St. Augustine, became one of the greatest saints of the Church.

When this holy card was produced her feast day must have been May 4th (the printers published that on the left side of the card) but now, it is celebrated on August 27th.

St. Cesario..........August 26

I'm sure this is an unknown saint to many of you.
He is special to our family and I therefore had to
put the card on the blog. I ask you all to join me
in asking St. Cesario to pray for all of us.
Some Saint Books say his last name is spelled
Caesarius and his feast day is said to be August 26th.
Other books say it is spelled the way it is on this holy
card with a feast day of August 27. I'm sure our
prayers will be answered on either day.

Confess..........August 25

O breathe on me,
O Breath of God,
My will to yours incline,
Until this selfish part of me
Glows with your fire divine.

O breathe on me,
O Breath of God,
Fill me with life anew,
That I may love the things you love,
And do what you would do.

St. Columba

French words mean ..."I shall penetrate your heart with a great abhorrence of sin."

Feast of St. Bartholomew........August 24

"In heaven I shall live amid joy since all trial will be gone forever, but here, below I must live by love."

St. Therese of Lisieux

Chosen by our Lord Himself
to be one of the Twelve Apostles.
He suffered martyrdom,
some say, by
being flayed alive.
The relics of the Saint are preserved
in the church of St. Bartholomew
on the island in the Tiber River near Rome.

The Latin words on the book mean, "The Gospel According to Matthew," who names Bartholomew as one of the Apostles.

Referred to as the "Pope of the Eucharist", he advocated frequent Communion for adults, sacramental preparation for children, and instruction in catechism for everyone. It was by his desire that the Eucharistic Congress of 1905 be held in Rome.

Pope Pius X died on August 20, 1914 at Vatican City from natural causes aggravated by worries over the beginning of World War I and was buried under the altar of the Chapel of the Presentation, Saint Peter's basilica.

Daughter of Abraham
Daughter of Our Lady of Mount Carmel
Canonized in Rome on October 11, 1998

"Lay all your cares about the future trustingly in God's hands, and let yourself be guided by the Lord just like a little child."

Edith Stein was born to a Jewish family at Breslau on October 12, 1891. Through her passionate study of philosophy she searched after truth and found it in reading the autobiography of St Teresa of Jesus. She was gassed and cremated at Auschwitz on August 9, 1942, during the Nazi persecution and died a martyr for the Christian faith after having offered her holocaust for the people of Israel. A woman of singular intelligence and learning, she left behind a body of writing notable for its doctrinal richness and profound spirituality. She was beatified by Pope John Paul II at Cologne on May 1, 1987, and canonized at Rome twelve years later.
