Feast of St. Ignatius of Antioch........October 17

WHAT WOULD I DO WITHOUT MY WONDERFUL COMMENTERS? LOOKS LIKE I'VE CONFUSED THE TWO ST. IGNATIUS'. I'VE PICTURED IGNATIUS OF
LOYOLA AND TODAYS'S FEAST DAY IS FOR ST. IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH. TOO LATE TO FIND A HOLY CARD FOR DEAR ONE WHO WAS MARTYRED.

Patron of Retreats
Founder of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits)

Prayer of St. Ignatius

Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my entire will, all that I have and possess. Thou hast given all to me. To Thee, O Lord, I return it. All is Thine, dispose of it wholly according to Thy will. Give me Thy love and Thy grace, for this is sufficient for me.

All for Jesus, all for Jesus!
All my being’s ransomed powers:
All my thoughts and words and doings,
All my days and all my hours.

Let my hands perform His bidding,
Let my feet run in His ways;
Let my eyes see Jesus only,
Let my lips speak forth His praise.

Worldlings prize their gems of beauty,
Cling to gilded toys of dust,
Boast of wealth and fame and pleasure;
Only Jesus will I trust.

Since my eyes were fixed on Jesus,
I’ve lost sight of all beside;
So enchained my spirit’s vision,
Looking at the Crucified.

Oh, what wonder! how amazing!
Jesus, glorious King of kings,
Deigns to call me His belovèd,
Lets me rest beneath His wings.

I didn't know he was the patron saint of retreats! Speaking of which, I'd love to be on one right now ... though with two small kids it may be a few years. :)

On a more sober note, today is also the 20th anniversary of the Loma Prieta earthquake, for all us northern Californians.

Happy Feast Day, St. Ignatius!

Dear Micki, you've got confused. The holycards that you've posted are of Saint Ignatius of Loiola, Spanish founder of the Jesuit Company. Saint Ignatius of Antioch is an early martyr of the Church that was killed by lions in the amphitheater of this city.

Have you heard the one about the man who always made the wrong choice? when his parents asked him which of 2 schools he wanted to attend, he chose the one that turned out to be going downhill.When he grew up and fancied 2 girls the one he married ran of with his best friend,Eventually he decided to start a new life abroad and had a choice of 2 flights. Wouldnt you know the one he chose over the Atlantic, the pilot says our engines are broken, we need a miracle, please pray over the tannoy. So your man prays St Francis help us! and a voice from Heaven asks "Would that be St Francis of assisi or St Francis Xavier?"

diddleymaz - Amen to that beautifuol prayer/poem.

Ginny - If I see a retreat offered for moms while children are napping I'll be sure to let you know. Offering them and your work is a beautiful prayer in itself.
I hope there was no difficulty for you or any loved ones from that earthquake.

Meldelen - Ohhhhh, nothing like making a BIG mistake. Thank you so much for pointing that out to me. I guess we will just have to ask both St. Ignatius' to pray for us. I'm not sure I even have a holy card of SIofA...I'll have to go look as soon as I have a few extra minutes. Thank you again for your wise information and eagle eyes :-)

diddleymaz - First of all you posted one minute before me, how funny is that.
Secondly, I love that story. I've never heard it before and I'll be sure to share it with my friends. I didn't see the ending coming until the end, that's always a big treat. Thanks.

diddleymaz - PS I had to get my dictionary out to look up "tannoy" because I never heard of that word before. Unfortunately it wasn't in the dictionary I used. Help....it's fun to learn new words.
