Feast of St. Luke the Evangelist..........October 18

(not a holy card but a wonderful bookplate picture)

Patron of Physicians and Artists.
He was a simple man, made great by his mission.
The greatness we achieve in our own lives will have the same source:
faithful commitment to Christ and love for our fellow man.

Symbolized by an ox bull or calf - a figure of sacrifice, service and strength. Luke's gospel starts on the temple duties of Zacharias in the temple; it represents Jesus' sacrifice in the Passion, and Christ as priest (this also represents Mary's obedience). Christians should be prepared to sacrifice themselves for salvation

Micki, I like the card you posted of Saint Luke the Evangelist.
It reminded me today that God calls all of us to evangelize.
He wants all of us to be a witness to him.

I love the bookplate so much I sent it to my son named....Luke!

He is an army medic - I am so pleased that St. Luke is his patron!

A beautiful image of St.Luke. I have to agree with what ed said, "that we are all called to evangelize." I believe this is something that we can learn from our Protestant brothers and sisters in Christ who so boldly share their faith in Jesus, without being politically correct. Jesus is the joy and life for all of us! He is the very purpose of our existence! May each of us proclaim the goodness of knowing Christ! John K.

Ed - And I pray that what we both do here on the internet can be considered "evangelizing" the technical way :-)

Angela - Oh what a beautiful name you gave your son. It is such a strong Christian name. I hope he finds moments to "evangelize" while he does his medic work. Thank him from all of us for the work he is doing in the military. May God bless and protect him always.

John K - You are so right about our Protestant brothers doing a more active job of evangelizing. I like to remember the quote from St. Francis of Assisi who said something about
evangelizing..and if you have to, use words.
