Three Angels..........August 16

You shall not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day...
For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways.
With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone.

Psalm 91:5,11-12

German couplet is this ..."In Trier, of you I thought, and to you this souvenir I've brought."

Friends,

I believe that this card is a souvenir of Trier, a city in Germany. I think that the meaning of the German couplet is this ...

"In Trier, of you I thought,
and to you this souvenir I've brought."

John

First of all, when I saw this card, I just went, "ahhhhhh."
That's what happens when holy card collectors who have laid eyes on thousands (millions?) of cards see a really beautiful one they've never seen before. What a lovely card!

Then when I saw what John wrote--I really had to smile. Thank you John for bringing such an informative perspective to our holy card experience.
What a great souvenir of Trier.

Almost all of these holy cards have prayers on the back, usually in French or German as the English ones seem to be somewhat rare. How much greater our appreciation could be if we could actually READ the prayers.

Micki, what a great quote to accompany this card.
You do such a wonderful job of matching quotes to holy cards. Thank you for the time and effort you put into this beautiful site.

John - Another bit of fascinating information. Thank you.

Ed - Yes, and what a wonderful thing to do.....praying the psalms.
I don't do that but it's something I should consider.

Kay - Thank you for such kind words. I think as collectors of these tiny pieces of art we do learn to be comforted and inspired by these artists who put together "God's Family Album" of friends for us to enjoy.
