This image of our loving Mother is one of my favorites! The author of the text is so correct in saying Mary will always lead us to her son! She is the Best Mother any of us can have, she never fails us; just as our earthly Mother's want the best for us so does she. May her prayers keep us safe and lead us to the Heavenly Port only to be greeted by her Son! Micki, once again my sincerest Thanks for sharing such Treasures with all of us! John K.

I've always loved this depiction of Mary. I have yet to be able to find a Star of the Sea card to add to my collection though! :(
John - I can't remember what song we sing (in English) at church now but there is a line that uses the words "star of the sea". I'm sure yours is beautiful.

You made me remember another great old hymn, which may or may not be the one you know:
Ave, Maria, thou virgin and mother,
Softly thy children are calling to thee.
Thine are the graces unclaimed by another,
Sinless and beautiful Star of the Sea.
Ave, Maria, the night shades are falling.
Softly our voices are arise unto thee.
Earth's lonely exiles for succor are calling,
Sinless and beautiful Star of the Sea.

This hymn, and others like it, were unjustifiably removed from hymnals around the mid-1960s, because of a misunderstanding of some Church documents, a misguided form of ecumenism, and a fear that the hymns were too "schmaltzy" (sentimental).

John - You make me laugh...I love it. Yes, you are right and by the way, I am now officially considered "schmaltzy" (insert big laugh here!)
