IMAGO SACRA MILLE GRATIARUM VALET. ("A holy picture is worth a thousand graces")................... This blog is a means to show some of my holy card collection along with some interesting thoughts and inspirations. "....artists have the privilege in the Church and throughout history, to open up so that people can see the mystery of God. The artist speaks, not just literally, but symbolically. Visual images, if well done, can move us. That's a ministry." Quote from Brother Michael Moran, C.P

Micki I have a large colour print of this wonderful work of art in my living room, I bought it at The Metropolitan Cathedral in London. I love pre-raphaelite art and this picture of the Adoration of the Magi is so thought provoking.
Diddleymaz,
I agree with you that it's a beautiful work, which I encourage visitors to double-click on (to magnify it).
Do you know who painted it?
I have to think that it was a non-Catholic, since none of the people (not even Jesus) is shown with a halo.
John
Its by Sir Edward Burne-Jones one of the greatest of the pre-raphaelites. The figures all have delicate filigree halos in the original but have not been copied on this black and white print.I will post a pic on my blog for comparison.
Thanks! John
diddleymaz - Isn't that great! I didn't know it was a famous piece of art. I'd love to see it in color, I bet it's stunning.
John - Thanks for adding the tip to double click to enlarge. It is an interesting piece of art for sure.
diddleymaz - I'm heading over to check that out...can't wait to see it is color. Thanks.
The quote by Cardinal Newman is awesome.
Cheryl - I bet he is pleased that you think so. So do I :-)
