we ourselves must be forgiving."

I feel very obtuse for asking it, but what is that circle-y thing?

Thanks in advance!

diddleymaz - Thanks for the update.

Stephanie - I think we all need these little reminders to keep us remembering our goal of forgiving others. I sure do.

Ginny - I was wondering the same thing. Good question.

Marina - I'll say "thank you" for the artist.

From my studies of Christian iconography through the centuries, I believe the "circle-y thing" is the lady's conical hat and veil, which she has removed and laid at Our Lord's feet to symbolize repenting of vanity or worldliness. See the 'thought image' inside it of her face in the conical hat? The 'thought image' is the clue. No modest "proper lady" would remove her head-covering. (It's a fascinating example of holy card art. As ever, thank you, Micki.)

Patricia Cecilia - THANK YOU. I never thought we would get an answer to "what is the round thing". How typical, if one only knew, that she would remove her hat in the humility gesture of praying before Christ. I guess we just are not used to seeing long veil-y hats. You are a gem....thanks.

That makes a lot of sense.
