Ascension of the Lord ..........May 4

God ascends His throne amid shouts of joy, the Lord is taken up with the sound of trumpets, alleluia!

Psalm 46:6

O Almighty God, we firmly believe that your only begotten Son, our Redeemer, ascended this day into heaven. May our minds dwell always on this heavenly home.

Now that Our Lord Jesus has ascended to his Father.
We wait and pray for the coming of his Holy Spirit to decend upon us.
Welcome sweet Holy Spirit, please come and decend upon us,our children, and our families.

It's an s Micki, not a t! but you're on the right day, unlike my Anglican friend; on Thursday he told me he had been to church for the feast of Antigone. When I laughed he amended it to Assumption. I suggested Ascension.

The Feast of the Ascension is actually on Ascension Thursday. In Canada it has been moved to the closest Sunday, but I didn't realize that the US had also done that.

How spiritually lazy we have allowed ourselves to become, that we can't even recognize our important feast days on the day that is due to them! Mea culpa! We are a culture of convenience.

Ed - I will join you in praying for the coming of the Holy Spirit. We are so blessed.

Nan - Thank you for pointing out my spelling error....I do appreciate your telling me. Can I say "I knew that!" :-)

Loved your sharing about the "Antigone." I'm still smiling.

Paramedicgirl - "Spiritually lazy"...great description. When I said something to a local priest he said "well at least more people will be here to celebrate the feast." I said, "but it's a holy day of obligation (Ascension Thursday)." He just smiled and walked away.

Anonymous - I'm sorry that I don't have a direct link to any onoe particular place to buy holy cards. Have you tried "Googling" Religious Stores, holy card sellers, the word "Ascension" or anything like that? Ask your church secretary if she has any books from religious goods stores (catalogs) that might help.
