Jesus is Stripped of His Garments
What was left? His honor was shattered in the courtyard by the soldiers' taunts;
His strength was left behind in every step on the death-march.
Only His sense of modesty remained,
and now, that too, is torn away with His clothing.
He suffered this shame and disgrace to atone for the sins of immodesty and impurity.
Lord, give me the grace to keep my soul pure and free from the taint of impurity and vice.
Micki,
ReplyDeleteI noticed that, in this painting, the artist has done yet another thing that I've never seen done before. He/she has depicted Jesus as standing on his cross. I wonder if this was intended as symbolic of the Lord's coming victory over sin and death.
John
Micki, it is a beautiful card, but sad to say I am afraid our Lords body was probably not in that good of shape.:( Oh, my. This week with all the Passion reading and programs about it makes my heart heavy thinking about what He did for us. Sweet, Sweet Jesus, how I love and thank you!
ReplyDeleteJohn, I agree with Micki. The things you see on these cards are inspired!
God Bless!
Ally :)
John - Yes I noticed how unusual that was too. I like your possible explanation to why the artist might have painted it that way. Interesting!
ReplyDeleteAlly - I think that the artists probably did not want to show the "gore" of His wounds and scourging. Sometimes that overshadows the message of what He did rather than how He did it. I can't imagine the suffering and have always found it most difficult to really dwell on the pain He endured for us. Thank you Jesus.

Yes, preoccupation with "gore" is morbid and perverse. I know perfectly well what he endured, I do not need to gawk at it. To wallow in it is to descend to the level of the public transfixed with the fascination of the arena.
ReplyDeleteThe crucifixion is not a form of amusement, no matter how many spectators may have laughed and jeered.
I apologize if it came across as something that I wanted to see. No, The card is beautiful, just as our Jesus is. I had just watched a holy week program on the Passion and it was heavy on my heart what my Lord endured for me.
ReplyDeleteMany blessings,
Ally :)
Irene - And yet we must never forget all those wounds and disfigurements and sorrow that happened that day for us. A reminder for us when we want to complain about our sufferings.
ReplyDeleteAlly - Sweet Ally, I never read any
thoughts that you wanted to see more physical signs of His sufferings. I also noticed how the artist painted the body with few wounds of the scourgings etc. and wondered why they were not depicted. Absolutely nothing for you to apologize for. Keep sharing your thoughts, they are food for our souls.
