IMAGO SACRA MILLE GRATIARUM VALET. ("A holy picture is worth a thousand graces")................... This blog is a means to show some of my holy card collection along with some interesting thoughts and inspirations. "....artists have the privilege in the Church and throughout history, to open up so that people can see the mystery of God. The artist speaks, not just literally, but symbolically. Visual images, if well done, can move us. That's a ministry." Quote from Brother Michael Moran, C.P
"Pardon Sins." I see that loud and clear. And many other truths, too. Can anyone help me apply our Lord's and our Lady's truths to marital discord? Is there anything you know that has helped yourself or others? I don't know how to stay in my marriage. I don't know HOW, and yet be myself, if you can understand that.
Anonymous - Your message pulls on my heart strings. I wish I could give you something, anything to help with your situation. But I can't. I will join John in praying for you. I guess you could say I don't have the words but I do have the prayers. Have you talked with a priest or any spiritual advisor? Just a thought.
I too will pray for anonymous. Such a complex question--and yet very common in our troubled world where many people opt out of commitment altogether. Counseling is often helpful but it is important to find the right counselor. It is important to find one who shares or at least accepts one's religious convictions and values.
There is also a program called "Retrovaille" that is intended to help couples put past hurts behind them, rediscover one another and start anew. It is a weekend with talks by other couples and is often the last effort before divorce. However, it is not counseling. Here is a link in case this might be helpful. http://www.retrouvaille.org/
There is another program called "Marriage Encounter" which is not designed for troubled marriages (making good marriages better) but which also has a weekend format with talks by other couples. It emphasizes COMMUNICATION because that is often something that is a weakness in marriages. Here is a link with more information on that. http://www.wwme.org/
Both of these programs are Catholic in origin but have been adopted by other denominations. These weekend events are held periodically around the country and around the world. Schedules and further information are available on the websites.
Marriage is not easy, especially in today's world. I will pray. God bless. Kay
John, Micki, Kay, and Aspiringfool, Thank you for your thoughts and your prayers. And (Kay), for the reference. Can I ask you this? Do you have a treasured passage of Scripture or any other wisdom that helps to anchor you? In Discord
Is there a treasured passage of scripture that helps me?
Well, I love the 23rd Psalm and all the other scriptural references to Jesus as the Good Shepherd. No matter how much knowledge or how many skills we acquire or how important we or others think we are, we are all still only sheep in the flock of the Lord. And yet, He loves each one of us as if we were the most important one.
We go astray, He guides us back to the right path. We get lost or fall in a pit, He seeks us out and brings us back. What a consoling thought. Kay
Dear Anon:) I along with many others will keep you in my prayers. I think Micki and others have good advice in seeking the right help for yourself through wise council..Here are verses that have helped me.
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am meek and humble of heart; and you will find rest for your selves. For my yoke is easy, and my burden light." Matthew 11:28-30
"For those who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a spirit of adoption, through which we cry, "Abba, Father!" The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. I consider that the sufferings of this present time are as nothing compared with the glory to be revealed for us." Romans 8:14-18
