How precious is your steadfast love, O God!
All people may take refuge
in the shadow of your wings.
Psalm 36:7
No one has known the forsakenness of your Son,
whose arms, pegged to a cross, stretched out like
wings
to embrace all creation with your saving grace.
Who knew your
wings
would stretch that far!

Thank you Micki, I love the Beuronese style. Don't see much of it.
ReplyDeleteFriends,
ReplyDeleteThe Latin inscription is from Isaiah 53:7. It means: "He was offered up because He willed it."
The animal and water at the foot of the cross reminded me of this passage from Psalm 42[41]:1-2 ...
"As a deer longs for flowing streams, so longs my soul for Thee, O God. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When shall I come and behold the Face of God?"
John
Thankyou, Micki, for the beautiful portrayal of Our crucified Jesus and that quote was powerful!
ReplyDeleteJohn, thankyou for the translation and that passage from Ps.42--one of my favorites and it really applies so perfectly to this holy picture.

A beautiful card, Micki - and a wonderful reminder that even now, even after all that was done, we can still run into the comfort of His embrace. Many Thanks.
