ReplyDeleteThe words on the card are a German translation of the old solemn Latin "form" of the Sacrament of Extreme Unction, found in the "Roman Ritual" that was used from the Middle Ages until 1972. The English translation read: "By this holy anointing and by His most tender mercy, may the Lord forgive you all the evil you have done through the power of sight or hearing."
Since 1972, a new "form" of what is now called the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick has been used. When oil is placed on the forehead, the priest says, "Through this holy anointing, may the Lord in his love and mercy help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit." When oil is placed on the hands, the priest says, "May the Lord who frees you from sin save you and raise you up." To each prayer the sick or injured person, if able, responds, "Amen."

Thank You Micki for sharing this beautiful holy card! Also the text posted today says so much! Food to ponder ourselves. May each of us look at the person who may look different etc. with the eyes of Our Lord, because each person is precious in His sight! We all need to pray for those who are perhaps not living according to God's designs, that the Holy Spirit may touch them in a meaningful way that brings them to Jesus!! Many a time we are the only example they may see that brings the love of Jesus to a hurting soul. Hope you are doing well Micki! A blessed day to you and all of your visitors! John K.
