Feast of St. Catherine of Siena.......... April 29

St. Catherine of Siena
Virgin and Doctor of the Church

Patroness of Fire Prevention

At eighteen years of age she received the habit of the Third Order of St. Dominic. She died at the age of 33.

St. Catherine has long been regarded as one of the finest theological minds in the Church--as is shown by her outstanding work, Dialogue--and in 1970 Pope Paul VI declared her a Doctor of the Church.

Friends,
I believe that the French words on the card can be translated as follows:

"'I will make you my spouse in the faith.' [Words of Our Savior to St. Catherine]

"I prefer, my sweet Jesus, to be like Thee in Thy sufferings than to enjoy all the softness of this world!"

A really "traditional" type card this time, Micki, full of imagery and piety - you do have cards of exceptionally varying styles. No wonder your site is so interesting as well as inspiring. Thank You.

And Thank You John, for the lovely translation, as usual.
Best Regards, Lynneda

John - We are all so blessed to have you pop in and translate for us. Always appreciated. Thanks.

Lynneda - Those old "traditional" cards are like the old "collector" who enjoys them too.

Diane - I'm asking St. Catherine to bless you especially today as your Patron.

I've been celebrating the feast of St. Catherine all day, and WHAT a day it has been !! in her company. I so appreciate the enthusiasm I've found here - a perfect addition and ending to celebration. Diane, I especially loved reading of your devotion. Thanks and thanks again, to all.

"Friend Of Our Lord" - What a wonderful thought to be spending the day with St. Catherine. I love that idea. Also....I really don't think you are an "aspiring" Friend of our Lord.....I think you made it to a full-fledged Friend.

Marilena - You must have a wonderful grandmother who named her daughter, your mother, such a beautiful name.
