Feast of Archangels Michael, Gabriel and Raphael...September 29

The memorials of Gabriel (March 24) and Raphael (October 24) were added to the Roman calendar in 1921. The 1970 revision of the calendar joined their feasts to Michaels (September 29).

I am only showing Archangel Raphael's holy card today.

"I am Raphael, one of the seven angels, who stand before the Lord."
Tobit 14:15

His mission in Scripture is to guide.
Read Old Testament Book of Tobit to learn of the
healing of blindness (cataracts) with fish gall.

(Protestants don't have the Book of Tobit.)

Carry Your Cross..........September 27

Little headaches, little heartaches
Little griefs of every day
Little trials and vexations.
How they throng upon our way.
Yet all life is formed of small things.
Little leaves make up the trees.
Many tiny drops of water blending
Make the mighty seas.
Asking him for grace sufficient
To sustain us through each loss
And to treasure each small suffering
As a splinter from His cross.

Good Shepherd...........September 24

"The good shepherd goes looking for the one sheep, and on finding it 'rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine.' God's love does not reach out to us generically, but individually, one by one. Our love should do the same.

Who is that one sheep God wants me to find today?"

Call on Christ...............September 22

"I will remember how St. Peter,
at a blast of wind, began to sink because
of his lack of faith,
and I will do as he did:
Call upon Christ and pray to him for help.
And then I trust he will place his holy hand on me and in the stormy seas
hold me up from drowning."

PRAY FOR THE MISSIONS

"Pray for the many spiritual and material needs of your families,
your communities,

St. Joseph...........September 19

The Litany to St. Joseph ends with the words "He made him the lord of His household and prince over all His possessions." It is believed that the same way that Jesus was obedient to His parents during life, and denied them nothing, Jesus does in Heaven. Therefore, do not ever be relucant to ask Joseph for his patronage in any need.

Prisoner in the Tabernacle..........September 18

(Today's words taken from an earlier post)

I have not seen your face today,
Where were you?
A hundred others came to pray,
Where were you?
From out My prison I have gazed!
At thousands who have, kneeling, praised -
I wanted YOU.

I wanted you - you did not come,
Where were you?
I waited there, in silence, dumb -
Where were you?
Ah! Could you not one moment spare?
Ah! Surely you a little care!
I wanted you.

Bishop Sheen did a daily holy hour.

Feast of Our Lady of Sorrows.........September 15

THE PROPHECY OF SIMEON.
Mary and Joseph took the Child Jesus to the Temple. Simeon, inspired by the Holy Spirit, met them and told Joseph and Mary of the great sufferings of Jesus and Mary. He told Mary that a sword would pierce her heart. How great was the shock to Mary's heart at hearing the sorrowful words.

THE FLIGHT INTO EGYPT
The angel told Joseph to flee with Mary and the Child Jesus because of what might happen to Jesus. Consider the sorrow of Mother Mary when she and Joseph had to suddenly flee by night to protect child Jesus in that land of exile.

THE LOSS OF THE CHILD JESUS IN THE TEMPLE
How dread was the grief of Mary when she realized the Child Jesus was not with them. With sorrow in their hearts, Mary and Joseph returned to Jerusalem to look for the Child Jesus.

MARY MEETS JESUS CARRYING HIS CROSS
Mary meets Jesus, with the crown of thorns adorned His head! Blood ran down His face! A heavy cross on His back! Wounded, His whole body covered with bleeding wounds! Consider, the tremendous grief of Mother Mary as their eyes met.

THE CRUCIFIXION
The Sorrow of the Mother seeing her beloved Son cruelly nailed to the cross. She stood at the foot of the cross. Behold Thy Mother! Let us resolve always to look upon Mary as our Mother and remember that she never fails her children.
MARY RECEIVED THE BODY OF JESUS FROM THE CROSS
Ponder the bitter sorrow of Mary when the body of her dear Son was lowered from the cross and placed in her arms. Her Heart was pierced with a sword and His Heart was pierced with a lance. O mournful Mother, our hearts are softened with sorrow upon seeing such affliction.

THE BODY OF JESUS IS PLACED IN A TOMB
What grief for the Mother to accompany her Son's Body to the grave,as she gazed a last time on the lifeless body of her Son, and the great stone was rolled to seal the entrance to the tomb.

JESUS CALLS
"He who labors as he prays
lifts his heart to God with his hands."
(St. Benedict of Nursia)

"Jesus calls us from the worship
Of the vain world's golden store,
From each idol that would keep us,
Saying, 'Christian, love Me more'.

In our joys and in our sorrows,
Days of toil and hours of ease,
Still He calls, in cares and pleasures,
'That we love Him more than these'.

Your conscience depends on you,
whereas

Death Dream..........September 2

I dreamt death came the other night
And Heaven's gate swung wide.
An Angel with halo bright
Ushered me inside.
And there! To my astonishment,
Stood folks I'd judged and labeled
As "quite unfit": "of little worth",
And "Spiritually disabled".
Indignant words rose to my lips,
But never were set free,
For every face showed stunned surprise -
Not one expected ME!
(unknown author)

"By this holy anointing and by His most tender mercy, may the Lord forgive you all the evil you have done through the power of sight or hearing."

Alpha and Omega...........August 17

Alpha and Omega are the first and the last letters, respectively, of the Greek alphabet. They have been employed from the fourth century as a symbol expressing the confidence of orthodox Christians in the scriptural proofs of Our Lord's divinity. This symbol was suggested by the Apocalypse, where Christ, as well as the Father, is "the First and the Last" (ii, 8); "the Alpha and Omegain Scripture), the first and the last, the beginning and the end" (cf., xxii, 13; i, 8).
