IMAGO SACRA MILLE GRATIARUM VALET. ("A holy picture is worth a thousand graces")................... This blog is a means to show some of my holy card collection along with some interesting thoughts and inspirations. "....artists have the privilege in the Church and throughout history, to open up so that people can see the mystery of God. The artist speaks, not just literally, but symbolically. Visual images, if well done, can move us. That's a ministry." Quote from Brother Michael Moran, C.P

What Do You Believe?..........June 18
"We can believe what we choose. We are answerable for what we choose to believe."
Micki I have a large colour print of this wonderful work of art in my living room, I bought it at The Metropolitan Cathedral in London. I love pre-raphaelite art and this picture of the Adoration of the Magi is so thought provoking.
Its by Sir Edward Burne-Jones one of the greatest of the pre-raphaelites. The figures all have delicate filigree halos in the original but have not been copied on this black and white print.I will post a pic on my blog for comparison.

ReplyDeleteDiddleymaz,
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that it's a beautiful work, which I encourage visitors to double-click on (to magnify it).
Do you know who painted it?
I have to think that it was a non-Catholic, since none of the people (not even Jesus) is shown with a halo.
