IMAGO SACRA MILLE GRATIARUM VALET. ("A holy picture is worth a thousand graces")................... This blog is a means to show some of my holy card collection along with some interesting thoughts and inspirations. "....artists have the privilege in the Church and throughout history, to open up so that people can see the mystery of God. The artist speaks, not just literally, but symbolically. Visual images, if well done, can move us. That's a ministry." Quote from Brother Michael Moran, C.P

*Happiness..........January 8
"In daily life we must see that it is not happiness that makes us grateful,
As I almost always do, I looked at the larger version of the card (by clicking on it). The one thing that caught my attention most was this: With her right hand, Our Lady is grasping a stem of a rose bush, despite the thorns, and, with her left hand, she is embracing a lamb (one of us). I take this as a symbol of our need to accept suffering in our lives, as she did. Perhaps you will see it differently.
John - I love your open eyes to these images. Thank you for pointing out things we might not see.
Ally - Thank you for passing on a compliment to JOhn, he deserves it.
Inspiring - Thank you for letting John know your views also. I'm so glad you are back on a computer. Love your interpretation of the lamb.....touches me spiritually.
I also love that saying about happiness and gratitude. So true!
Adrienne - I like them also. Makes me sad that they can't make them like that any longer. They do have "die-cut" imitations but they are just that, obvious "imitations." :-(
Thank you, friends. I just saw another possible interpretation of the picture.
Our Lady's right hand may be on the rose bush to indicate that she had just freed the lamb (each of us) from the snares (thorns) of sin, through her intercessory prayers to her Son.

John,
ReplyDeleteNeat interpretation. I would not have noticed that, I don't think!
Be blessed,
Ally

ReplyDeleteMy favorite cards are ones like this. I really like the paper lace around the edges (or pierced paper?)
