There quickly surfaces the intensity with which he lived his life,
whether his path led away from or toward God.
The tears of his mother,
the instructions of Ambrose and,
most of all,
God himself speaking to him in the Scriptures redirected Augustine's
love of life to a life of love.
"When we pray, we speak to God. When we read, God speaks to us."
St. Augustine
Icon painting by Duccio di Buoninsegna (Siena)
Who could not love a saint who exemplifies strength in faith and love for God's word? Who could not love a saint who reminds us that we can rise from death, confusion and emptiness? God be praised for St. Augustine!
ReplyDeleteGod be praised for our earthly mothers and our dear Mother in heaven who pray for us!
Thank you dear Micki!

Easter - Thank you for pointing out how encouraging St. Augustine can be as a hero of .... coming back to the Lord. I think we need to ask him especially to help all those who have left the church to recognize how God loves them and waits for their return.
ReplyDeleteBlessings dear friend.
Marie - Thank you for the words "gentle breeze". They bring a smile to my face...such a peaceful feeling.
