How typical, if one only knew, that she would remove her hat in the humility gesture of praying before Christ. I guess we just are not used to seeing long veil-y hats. You are a gem....thanks.Mickihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04362052610142449121noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34135544.post-32014951905881602252009-08-16T19:59:46.139-04:002009-08-16T19:59:46.139-04:00From my studies of Christian iconography through t...From my studies of Christian iconography through the centuries, I believe the "circle-y thing" is the lady's conical hat and veil, which she has removed and laid at Our Lord's feet to symbolize repenting of vanity or worldliness. See the 'thought image' inside it of her face in the conical hat? The 'thought image' is the clue. No modest "proper lady" would remove her head-covering. (It's a fascinating example of holy card art. As ever, thank you, Micki.)Patricia Ceciliahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07865276033931235166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34135544.post-40662600731559164272009-08-15T06:07:01.429-04:002009-08-15T06:07:01.429-04:00diddleymaz - Thanks for the update.
