Our Lady of Mount Carmel..........July 16

O God,

the order of Carmel was singularly honored

when the title of the most blessed ever-virgin Mary, your mother, was given to it.

Grant that we who commemorate this solemn feast today may be shielded by her protection

and attain everlasting happiness; who lives and rules with God the Father.

Friends,
The Latin words on the card mean (literally), "Queen, Ornament of Carmel."

Today I think, not only of Our Lady, but of all her great Carmelite daughters.

Hi Micki,

The image you chose for today is one of my own very favorites. Thank you, as always.

The excerpt below is from the book: Carmel, Its History, Spirit and Saints, as accounted for on a Carmelite holy card.

"The Order of Carmel is dominated by two great figures which represent its ideals: Elijah and Our Lady. Elijah pronounced the sentence on which the contemplative spirit is based: 'The Lord lives in whose presence I stand.' Carmel seeks to gaze upon God and love God with mind and heart. Our Lady represents the soul itself. As the soul is united to Christ, so Carmel is united to Mary. Mary is, par excellence, the contemplative soul. She is the soul athirst for God, longing for God, hoping for God. Mary is also the temple in which is consummated God's espousals with humanity, the hidden sanctuary, the desert that flowers at the breath of God."

Offered in honor and celebration of Carmel and of Our Lady, and of her Carmelite sons and daughers, and in devotion to the Brown Scapular, too, AspiringFOOL(FriendOfOurLord)

Thanks for the video tip, AF. I had often wondered what Mt. Carmel looks like.

Thank you all for your comments.
You always bring something to the blog that I enjoy.
AF - Loved the site you shared. I scanned down and really enjoyed Mario Lanza singing the "Our Father." It was nice to see Mt. Carmel also. Thank you all.

This might be a fun fact to share. In my parish church building are lights that are suspended from the ceiling with cylinder-shaped glass 'globes' around the bulbs - a very common style in church buildings. What draws my attention to ours is the coloring of the glass panels that make up the 'globe:' very light blue with cream colored striations through he blue. I always imagine they are pieces of the sky and clouds over Mt. Carmel. Sometimes I can't take my eyes off of them. I must look terribly holy looking upwards (at them) like that! (Big smile!) with love, AspiringGOOL(FriendOfOurLord)
