IMAGO SACRA MILLE GRATIARUM VALET. ("A holy picture is worth a thousand graces")................... This blog is a means to show some of my holy card collection along with some interesting thoughts and inspirations. "....artists have the privilege in the Church and throughout history, to open up so that people can see the mystery of God. The artist speaks, not just literally, but symbolically. Visual images, if well done, can move us. That's a ministry." Quote from Brother Michael Moran, C.P

Yes, Jesus is the "King of Love," as the card says. (That reminds me of a hymn I love, The King of Love My Shephered Is.)
But it was not until I enlarged the card that I noticed the sign in the upper left corner. It has the words (in Latin) that were on the cross at Calvary: "Jesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum" -- Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews.
John
Here He is -- the one who loves us so much. As one of the saints said --God loves us onto maddness.
Here is the proof!

Yes! Many years ago I meditated on the suffering Christ and I cried so hard because finally my heart understood what he did for me.
Excuse me here Micki... Lynneda, if you visit my blog I have my email address there. I have this cool Lenten activity I want to share with your family and which your daughter might enjoy doing. Just a thought. :-)
Thank you dear Micki! :-)
Oooo, if I am honest, I have to admit that I have a love/hate relationship with art depicting Jesus' suffering, Micki - I love Him all the more for seeing what He went through for us; but I so hate to see what was done to Him. A beautiful but painful card to look at.
(p.s. easter, I'll be looking in on your site with my daughter, Claudine, later today. Thank you for the invitation. :)).
My Best Regards, Lynneda
John - A wonderful song..thanks for the site. Once again, your eyes spot what mine did not...oh, I'm a poet almost ;-) You do keep me busy copying all your bits of added info. TY (thank you)
D.S. - Now that's a quote worthy of much thought. I never saw that quote before..."maddness".....interesting.
Easter - I think that's what we should all be called to see. You were saddned but blessed.
Lynneda - It certainly is difficult to see the suffering Jesus. I think these images help us make a better Lent though. I know they help remind me that what I might "suffer" is nothing compared to Him. And He said He would do it all again for us.
